Welcome! I’m Alyssa Smith, LMSW, and I understand that starting therapy can feel overwhelming. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can truly be yourself and explore the challenges you’re facing. I see therapy as a collaborative process—one where I support you in setting your own goals, making your own decisions, and staying actively engaged in your healing journey.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Calvin College and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Michigan. Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of mental health settings and have extensive experience helping individuals cope with depression, anxiety, trauma, severe mental illness, substance use, LGBTQ+ issues, eating disorders, and other life transitions.
As a trauma therapist, I currently work with both teens and adults who are navigating the long-term effects of trauma and relational wounds. I’m trained in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and mindfulness-based approaches, and I use a trauma-informed framework to guide my practice. I specialize in working with clients who have experienced relationship-based trauma as well as those struggling with eating disorders.
My therapeutic approach is compassionate and empowering. I strive to help my clients build resilience, process painful experiences, and develop tools to manage life’s ups and downs. Ultimately, I want to support you in creating a life filled with confidence, connection, and fulfillment.
