Hello, I’m Greg Cooper LMSW, and am pleased to be joining Life Support LLC. I’m a licensed clinical social worker with over 40 years of experience working with adults, children, youth and families navigate life’s challenges. One of my passions is meeting you in your place of struggle, with the goal of assisting you, weather that means processing past hurts and trauma, coping with a recent mental health diagnosis or building heathier and or improved relationships in the here and now.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Calvin College and a master’s degree from Western Michigan University. Prior to earning my advanced degree, I worked 10 years in adult mental health, supporting adults coping with major mental health concerns. Since earning my advanced degree, I have 32 years working in various mental health counseling positions providing both Outpatient and Home-based Counseling and supervision. Many of the children/families served experienced complex trauma within their family of origin. Children, youth and adults served were involved in the child welfare, delinquency and/or mental health system and were supported in navigating mental health challenges r/t ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, complex trauma, domestic violence, personality disorders, substance use, anger management. Part of the child welfare experience I particularly enjoyed included helping parents navigate their involvement with Child Protective Services, supporting youth in foster care, and through either their return home or through termination of parental rights. Finally, providing post adoption support and consultation to adoptive families’ r/t parenting youth coming out of the child welfare system.
My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, strength-based, and client-driven. Therapy occurs in the context of a safe, secure, open and honest therapeutic relationship. I use a variety of therapeutic tools including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused approaches.
